In 1966, Carroll Shelby approached Hertz Corp for a car based on the highly popular Mustang that they could rent under their fun collection, under the “Rent-a-Racer" slogan. Only 1000 1966 Shelby Hertz's were built and just about all of them were automatic.
In 2006, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Shelby Hertz, Carroll Shelby again approached Hertz and built 500 GT-H coupes for Hertz. Then in 2007, Shelby built 500 Convertible Hertz Shelby, This extremely collectible car is serial number 07H-228 of only 500 GT-H convertibles produced in 2007, and the dash has been signed at a car show by Carrol Shelby himself - not something he did for all 2007 Shelby GT-H cars.
Car is in excellent and all original condition. ~ 28,000 miles. The 2007 Shelby GT-H convertible comes in a black exterior paint and has the appearance of a race car with its gold "Le Mans" dual racing strip and Hertz side emblems. The custom hood and pins is a unique to this model Shelby only, as is the brushed aluminum grille, front and rear spoilers, badging, “roll bar” and its own unique wheels.
As this was one of Shelby’s top of the line cars when it was built, it comes with every available option, including: power top, premium “Shaker 500” stereo, fog lamps, air conditioning, cruise control, air conditioning, power locks, mirrors, windows, steering and brakes, traction control, real spoilers, rear defroster, power seats, tilt steering, electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes, etc.
The Shelby GT-H convertible is powered by a 4.6-liter, V8 engine. It has a five-speed automatic transmission. Ford Racing Performance Group worked with Shelby and its FR1 Power Pack bring the horsepower and torque to 325HP/330tq. The package included a 90mm cold air kit, muffler kit, a new X-pipe and Borla/Ford Racing "GTA" axle-back mufflers. The Ford Shelby GT-H also had the Ford Racing Handling Pack (FR3) which included specially tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars, strut tower brace, and a Ford Racing 3.55:1 ratio rear axle assembly.
